Modules of Sustainability

Youth sports gyms in low-resourced communities depend on their leadership to build sustainability into the DNA of their organizations. Those that do, are better able to deliver financial value and wider stakeholder impact. CornerFocus utilizes a Trainer-Of-Trainer (TOT) Mentorship model to guide local youth gyms to thrive and become sustainable.

CornerFocus provides high quality infrastructure to youth gyms which results in bringing their vision and mission to the communities they serve. This expands their reach and services to youth who are vulnerable to health risks, poverty, incarceration, low self-esteem, poor academic performance, and living in difficult environments.

Governance

Create a non-profit public benefit trust organization whose primary purpose is to provide high-quality sports instruction that will serve a population of at-risk youth.

Education

Provide organizational training to improve the gym’s nutrition and fitness programs; academic, business and entrepreneurial development for youth to directly participate in the gym’s governance and day-to-day operations.

Marketing

Establish a strategy to increase awareness and grow community engagement using traditional and digital media.

Safety

Raise funds for safety equipment: Headgear, hand wraps, mouth guards, shin guards, safety pads, and more.

Fundraising

Develop a financial development program that increases the ability for the organization to remain viable and grow.

  • Prepare: Education is the primary tool to lift the cycle of poverty. Preparing youth with the skills to manage their physical and mental health, conflict, and finances is key to a successful future.
  • Protect: Youth sports programs instill confidence, discipline, and self-respect if done safely. Protective equipment and injury education are essential to building these skills in a safe environment.
  • Perform: Youth who perform in athletics have increased cognitive skills, increased academic performance, and are more likely to graduate from high school and attend college.

Your financial support will build the skills and confidence to help break the cycles of poverty and street violence.
